Als tijdens de heksenjacht in 1595 op de Brabantse Peel ook de eigengereide Heylken wordt beschuldigd van hekserij, kan ze niet aan haar veroordeling ontsnappen, maar inspireert ze wel de jonge Griet met haar vrije geest en krachtige stem.
